Qualifications and background as mediator in civil cases
Jim Ryan has served as mediator in 589 civil cases to date, 495 of which settled at the mediation with a signed settlement agreement.
Mr. Ryan has litigated civil cases since 1984, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, and has served as a mediator since 2001, in cases involving a wide variety of legal claims, including (a) claims arising under state and federal statutes (discrimination [age, race, national origin, disability, sexual harassment, gender and retaliation], whistleblower, Title VII, MHRA, FMLA, ERISA, Uniform Trade Secrets Act, Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, RICO, Consumer Fraud Act, 302A.751 litigation [unfairly-prejudicial conduct toward minority shareholder in close corporation, etc.], bankruptcy retaliation), and (b) claims arising under common law , including breach of contract, commercial construction, partnership disputes, non-competition and confidentiality agreements, trade-secret and unfair-competition disputes, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, promissory estoppel, defamation, assault and battery, tortious interference with contract/prospective advantage, sexual assault, negligent hiring, supervision, and retention, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, wrongful death, personal injury, and so on.
He is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
